Humid environments often pose a challenge to builders because of the potential for mold growth. Insulation batt installations are especially problematic as the wrong selection of materials can exacerbate mold growth just a few months after the completion of the project. To avoid these problems, using kraft-faced insulation is often recommended for preventing mold growth and excessive moisture buildup in the batting.

Kraft-faced insulation has a paper vapor barrier on one side, intended to prevent the accumulation of moisture in the rest of the batting, thus also reducing the chances of mold growth. This type of insulation product is usually placed with the paper side facing towards the installer. When installed correctly, moisture build-up in the batting can be reduced, preventing mold infestation and improving the thermal performance of the insulation.
